La Esquina is one of the more modern cafés/heladerías in Ibarra and offers up a short menu of Ecuadorian specialties, such as humitas, quimbolitos and empanadas. The eatery also offers a simple breakfast menu with sandwiches, yogurt, desserts, water, sodas and of course, a range of traditional Ibarra ice cream (fluffy ice cream with a consistency similar to sherbet).
The café has been decorated with a bright orange and green décor and Ikea-like furnishings. La Esquina is a great deal, and kid-friendly, with a plastic play gym for toddlers on the second floor. Watching traditional ice cream whipped up on one of the copper bowls in front of you is a treat for anyone, young or old.
