One of the more modern cafes/heladerias in Ibarra, La Esquina offers up a short menu of Ecuadorian specialties including humitas, quimbolitos and empanadas. It also offers a simple breakfast menu, sandwiches, yogurt, desserts, water, sodas and of course, a range of traditional Ibarra ice cream (fluffy ice cream with a consistency similar to sherbet). Though the coffee is from a Nestle automatic machine, its better than a cup of instant and only a few places in town actaully brew a fresh cup of coffee.

Ikea-like furnishings, along with the bright orange and green décor, keep this café looking modern. Cheap and good, La Esquina is a great deal, and kid-friendly, with a plastic play gym for toddlers on the second floor. Watching traditional ice cream whipped up on one of the copper bowls in front of you is a treat for anyone, young or old.
