True Ecuadorian cuisine, with plato fuerte, is the specialty here. Located on the main street of Olmedo 748, El Chagra is one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants draped in old-school décor with orange booths and friendly owners who treat you more like you’re a guest coming for dinner than a customer. Soups range from 50 cents to 70 cents a bowl and, depending upon the daily selection, a handful of Platos Fuertes (main plates) including a trout or meat dish will run you about $3.20. If you are looking for a less expensive meal try one of the mixed rice dishes which go for $2.50 to $2.80. And if you are looking for breakfast, check out the simple egg and bread breakfasts which go for a cheap $1.20.
