Bellavista Cloudforest is one of the few lodges in the Andean cloud forest that has access to primary forest. This is a perfect selection for someone interested in escaping civilization, relaxing, hiking on beautiful cloudforest trails and partaking in excellent bird watching. Activities like horse back riding are also available for short rides and long distance rides. There are excellent naturalist guides available 24-hours a day to take guests on hikes and explain the flora and fauna in the area.

Bellavista is set 30 minutes off the road from Quito – Mindo. With over 8 km in trails through the beautiful Tandayapa Valley, which has 330 recorded species of birds; hummingbirds, tanagers and toucans are the most common.

There are five different buildings that offer a range in accommodations from secluded honeymoon suites to rooms with a shared bath in the main domed ‘tarzan’s’ lodge. There are also opportunities for independent researchers and volunteers – more than half the plants remain unidentified and there is much to discover about the habits of the many species of birds.

Prices range from $10-69 per person depending on accommodation and if you want 3 meals per day or not. Food served is mostly vegetarian, trout or chicken.

Traveler Reviews of Bellavista Cloud Forest

Overrated/Underwhelming

Rating: 0%

Staff indifferent to guests, odd customer service

By V!VA User from Cleveland, Feb 12, 2008

birds are ok

Rating: -10%

Staff oddly patronizing and unhelpful. Guides good. Food abundant when served but staff service strangely mechanical and joyless. Birds were great. Wouldn't recommend though; 5 times higher price or more in comparison to other Equadorian venues. Not good value.
