Raved by travelers all over, Hacienda Primavera is a gorgeous eco-lodge nestled in the El Choclo rainforest reserve. The hotel, which has been owned by the same family for over 90 years, is located three hours northwest of Quito. The hacienda is a working ranch with horses, pigs, goats, cattle, llamas and donkeys, and is surrounded by a lush forest with prolific bird life. There are eight suites with exquisite views of the rainforest, all with private bathrooms and balconies. The proprietors make every effort to keep their lodge eco-friendly through organic recycling and other earth-conscious efforts. The restaurant serves gourmet meals daily, using organic crops from the hacienda and local farms. The lodge can help organize local activities such as horseback riding, whitewater rafting, Autoferro train rides, hiking, and opportunities to participate in the day-to-day running of the hacienda.

I don't know where the other reviewer got her information from, but I saw wildlife!! I have a video clip of the sloth we saw to prove it! Every day parrots would fly by the hacienda at least twice a day. And you could hear the howler monkeys in the forests at sunset. I didn't see an anteater, but they are so rare, who would expect it! And, by the way, all those animals are native to the area! If you want easy access to animals, go to a zoo! If you want to see them in their natural habitat, keep your eyes and ears open. I imagine it is not hard to tell that I loved the whole place! It is so charming, the people and the food are wonderful! We went on fabulous hikes and horseback rides that ended up at spectacular waterfalls. I highly recommend it! I posted the video of the sloth here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrWuDjl0SmM I wish I had gotten more, but I was a bit flustered. Enjoy.
The hacienda was great. It was beautiful, very clean, and the staff was wonderful. The chef is a super guitar player and sings well too. There was a major disappointment for me however. The hacienda's website touts having toucans, toucanets, parrots and the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, plus the mantled howler monkey, two toed sloths, giant anteaters and armadillos in the area. I chose the location because I wanted to see wildlife. Upon arrival, I learned that none of these animals can be seen in the northern Andes, that they live only in the rainforest. I felt the website was misleading in this way.
I had such a great time
