The self-proclaimed ‘possibly ultimate birding destination’, Tandyapa was built in 1999 on a pasture on the edge of the cloud forest outside of Mindo and has since planted over 30,000 trees to fill in the areas of the cloud forest that had been destroyed. The lodge is stacked with birding gear and viewing equipment and features a viewing deck, extensive trails throughout the forest and full-time guides willing to set out in search of birds at all hours of the day. There are several options for different day trips, each with a list of bird species found in those areas.

There are 12 rooms in the main building, all with hot water, private bathrooms and electricity. Rooms range from $90-220 depending on size per night. The price includes three meals, guides, and all taxes.
