Looking for a cheap quick meal? Then go where the locals go. Located next to the bus station, El Jardín de los Andes serves traditional Ecuadorian fare in an outdoor food court-like setting. Not a single restaurant but rather a line of a dozen or so individual order-at-the counter mini restaurants, here you can fill up on local favorites like grilled chicken, fried fish, ceviche, or the carne colorada (steak cooked in a natural red seasoning), a regional specialty. For dessert, grab some fresh fruit across the street at the Cotacachi Market. With good food at great price, plus a bustling atmosphere, El Jardín de los Andes is a good value for the budget conscious traveler.
