V!VA User‘s Description
Set in the hills a couple of miles south of Otavalo, La Luna is like a home away from home and an excellent choice for backpackers who want to chill out for a few days. It’s a charming place with great views into the valley – the hammocks on the terrace make fine viewpoints – and there’s a cozy restaurant with basic but wholesome food and a wood-burning stove for colder evenings. They sometimes have live Andean music on Saturday nights. In the lounge there are plenty of games to keep you occupied, as well as a DVD player and a selection of DVDs in English.
The rooms are a good value, with dorm beds for $4 and double en-suite rooms with fireplace for $18. A taxi from the town costs around $3 during the day, $4 at night.
There are several good walks in the area, and the helpful English/Ecuadorian owners can provide you with a map and suggest some good routes. They can also arrange transport to the Lagunas de Mojanda, as well as horse-riding and mountain-biking trips.
I love this spot. Its a great budget escape. I stay here everytime I go to Otavalo.
This is one of the most lovely places that I've ever been to, you can get so close with nature and get out of the daily routine and work.
We've stayed there three different times. Cozy, home-y, friendly helpful staff and the most beautiful setting you can imagine. The dogs are great too. It cools off in the evenings so fireplaces in the rooms are a great feature.
