The Árbol de Montalvo restaurant is located in the back of the Hostal Doña Esther. It has a cosy bistro-like atmosphere, especially for the big wood-burning oven in the middle of the restaurant. The restaurant serves Mediterranean food. Besides the variety of plates, it specializes in pizzas, which are made in the wood-burning oven, right before your eyes. The typical nacional dishes also found their place on the menu.

The steak pizzaiola was absolutely scrumptious - some of the only good Italian food I've gotten in Ecuador. Don't be put off if the place is empty. Also, I would say this is not the place to get traditional food like fritada - it's good and clean, but the portions are small.

I live for 6 months in Otavalo and eat here many times. It´s lovely, the best food in Otavalo and the owners are really nice people!!
