Buena Vista, located on the second floor of a building on the edge of the Plaza de Ponchos, certainly lives up to the name (Good View). The vista is especially fine if you’re lucky enough to get one of the two tables on the balcony. The restaurant is a great spot for breakfast on a Saturday morning when you can watch the empty plaza turn into a sea of rugs, ceramics, jewelry and other handicrafts as the Otavalo market takes shape. Buena Visa also has a small book exchange (take one, leave two), and the restaurant plays daily movies in Spanish and English. The menu features a lot of pastas and meat dishes for around the $4-5 mark, and the salads are good too. Try the hot fruit juice with sugar cane alcohol, a local specialty. Buena Vista is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restaurant is closed Mondays.
