The Museo Municipal de Arte Moderno, west of the center of Cuenca, on the Plaza San Sebastián, has a permanent collection of contemporary paintings and sculptures. The art work is displayed in separate rooms and within the gardens, spread around two delightful courtyards. The buildings were previously a casa de la temperancia (house of temperance), a treatment center used for the rehabilitation of alcoholics. After years of neglect and general deterioration, the buildings were beautifully restored as a national monument. Photographs showing this are displayed within a separate exhibition.
Well worth a visit.
