
Turi, or “brother” in Kichwa, serves as a quick escape away from the center of the city. Most enjoyable at sunset, Turi sits atop a steep hill, providing gorgeous vistas of the city lights below and the mountains that surround it. You can usually count on a backdrop of pink and purple sky, cuddling couples and, at dusk traditional music blaring from the church loudspeakers. The actual lookout point is just in front of the church, the side of which is covered in interesting murals that depict daily indigenous life. On Sundays, Turi is filled with churchgoers and provides an interesting perspective of what town life is really about.

Turi is located to the South of Cuenca. From the center of the city a cab ride should not cost more than $3. By bus ($0.25), take any that say “Turi” from the intersection of Fray Vicente Solano and 12 de Abril. This will drop you off at the bottom of
