Plaza Rotary

Location
Cuenca, Ecuador

Shopping

By Christopher Minster

Plaza Rotary is located about four blocks away from the central square. It is the best place in Cuenca for shopping for artesanía (local handmade goods). Market day is Thursday, but you can find some stalls and sellers there any day. This market is mostly known for ceramics, wooden utensils and household items and finely-made baskets.

V!VA User‘s Description

Located about seven or eight blocks to the northeast of the central square in Cuenca, Plaza Rotary hosts an outdoor market of random, non-touristy handicrafts made by and for locals. Hand-tied rope, baskets made of old car tires, brass bells, garish piggybanks and more are for sale here. The spot is well worth a visit for visitors, but don’t plan on buying much of anything: there just isn’t much of interest for travelers.

Plaza Rotary is located on Vargas Machuca and Gaspar Sangurima. You can walk there from the central square, but it will take you about 20 minutes. A cab can get you there much quicker and won’t cost more than a dollar or two.

Traveler Reviews of Plaza Rotary

worth a look

Rating: 0%

Plaza Rotary is worth checking out if you have some time to kill in Cuenca. It's for locals, which is good if you like to see how people live. If you're looking for souvenirs, you probably won't find any.
