Hotel Santa Lucía

Antonio Borrero 8-44 y Sucre
Cuenca, Ecuador

Hotel

By Christopher Minster

Hotel Santa Lucía is a beautiful converted home in central Cuenca (the home once belonged to Don Manuel Vega Davila, first governor of Azuay province). The hotel is elegant and very attractive and the rooms are comfortable and modern. The hotel is owned by the Veintimilla family, who also own other successful hotels and restaurants. They know what they're doing and it shows: the hotel won a Cuenca award in 2002 for best building restoration.

The restaurant is very good -- the food style is Italian-Ecuadorean. Breakfast is included. The restaurant doubles as a cafe of sorts for breakfast and lunch and an elegant restaurant for dinner.

Their website is in English, Spanish and German and is quite good for making reservations and getting information.

Traveler Reviews of Hotel Santa Lucía

One of the best in Cuenca

Rating: 100%

Beautiful restored home, close to the center of town, for a fraction of what you'd pay for a similar place in the US...what's not to like? Great service. Also a good place to get a cappuchino for all you caffeine-heads out there.

Best Restaurant in Cuenca

Rating: 100%

I have never stayed at Santa Lucia because we live in Cuenca. My husband and I dine at Santa Lucia for our anniversary and birthday celebrations because the food is simply outstanding. The cost is more than your average Ecuadorian meal, but then the food is prepared by an above average chef. The wine selection is good too. The atmosphere is old colonial with beautiful murals in a garden-like setting. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Cuenca.
