An excellent choice for those in the lower mid-range budget zone Hostal Chordeleg is a converted colonial home in the center of Cuenca. The courtyard, with its neat garden and wooden upper floors, is beautiful. The rooms, which have clean bathrooms, are well-maintained and come with TV.

Located in a colonial building with a glassed in courtyard, the hotel is right in the center of town, so you can walk to many museums, parks, markets, etc. The staff went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable during my 2-week stay. Friendly desk clerks were always able to tell me where in town to find anything I might need. They even gave me, without my asking for it, a discount because I stayed 14 nights. As a woman traveling alone, I felt completely safe - the front door is always locked and a concierge is available 24 hrs a day. I would definitely stay there again.
