Located about 45 minutes outside of Cuenca, Hostería Huertos de Uzhupud is a good option for those who want to be near Cuenca but still have more of a countryside experience. The hostería has hiking trails, horses for riding, tennis courts, a pool and sauna in addition to soccer field, volleyball court and children´s games. There is even a small orchid garden. They can host meetings, conventions and other special events.

On Sundays, they offer an impressive buffet lunch featuring local dishes such as hornado (roast pork).

On weekends and holidays, Uzhupud is popular with Ecuadorians who go to relax: you can pay day rates to use the pool and sauna area. Many tours to nearby Gualaceo and Chordeleg will stop for lunch at Uzhupud. The dishes are quite reasonably priced and the food is excellent. Try the "yaguana" juice: it's a fruit punch of sorts colored with the pinkish ataco plant.

Uzhupud is located 35 minutes from the city of Cuenca. You can fly from Quito or Guayaquil, the two most important cities in Ecuador to Cuenca and then by land you can get to Hostería Uzhupud.

Don´t go during holidays

Is a beautiful place and it is so peaceful, but during the holidays everyone from surrounding cities go to the pool and the restaurant. This makes it really difficult to find a place to stay at the hotel.

Gorgeous place outside of Cuenca

Uzhupud is a fantastic place to visit. The grounds are covered with plants and flowers and it's all well kept. It's too far from Cuenca if you really want to experience the city, but if you want to get away, it's perfect. Lots of people come for day trips on the weekends, though, and the hotel turns into sort of a water park with kids jumping in the pool and shouting during the day. If you don't like kids you should probably stay somewhere else. The food at the restaurant is really good.
