Great Little Hotel with a Small Inn Feel

We've stayed at the Inca Real twice in 2006 - once in January and again in August. It's a small, family run operation with a B'nB feel to it. There is, in fact a restaurant attached to the hotel with several tables set in the main lobby courtyard. Breakfast is served buffet style with lots of fresh fruit, juice and breads. Eggs are cooked to order. Other meals are full table service. The wait staff are very attentive, but with limited English skills(very common in Cuenca). Knowledge of a little Spanish will go a long way. The rooms are small, but not uncomfortable. However, if you're over 5'7" tall, you'll find the beds are a bit short; average height in Ecuador is shorter than in U.S. The building is fairly old(as everything is in the old city), but well maintained. Be advised that it is not heated or air conditioned(again, this is common to Cuenca), but this is only an issue at night, when it can get down into the mid-40's(F). There is excellent shopping in the immediate hotel area, with a native market about three blocks away.
