Hotel Oro Verde ("Green Gold" in Spanish -- it refers to bananas) is Cuenca's most luxurious hotel. It is a destination in itself, offering such amenities as a swimming pool, exercise room, fine dining, tennis and horseback riding. The Oro Verde has 79 rooms, so there is usually space. This hotel is one of several luxurious Oro Verde hotels in Ecuador, and like the others, it features large, well-designed rooms, gorgeous gardens and elegant restaurants.

Oro Verde Cuenca is located outside of town, too far to walk, but taxis are inexpensive and the hotel staff will be happy to arrange one for guests. It was built next to a small natural lake and on the banks of the Tombebamba river.

Easily the fanciest hotel in Cuenca, Oro Verde is popular with businessmen and deep-pocketed tourists.
