Hotel Santa Lucía is a beautiful, converted home in central Cuenca (the home once belonged to Don Manuel Vega Davila, first governor of Azuay province). The hotel is elegant and very attractive and the rooms are comfortable and modern.
The hotel is owned by the Veintimilla family, who also own other successful hotels and restaurants. They know what they're doing and it shows: the hotel won a Cuenca award in 2002 for best building restoration.
The restaurant is very good and serves Italian-Ecuadorean style food. The restaurant doubles as a café of sorts, for breakfast (which is included) and lunch, and an elegant restaurant for dinner. The
Hotel Santa Lucia website is in English, Spanish and German and is quite good for making reservations and getting information.

The house takes you back 150 years, the staff its pleasant and the food its grate!!!!!!!!
I asked the hotel to book a tour to Ingapirca for me. Instead, they booked a tour to a nearby national park called El Cajas. I confirmed verbally with the hotel when I was paying for the tour that it was for Ingapirca but I didn't realize that I was on the wrong tour until it was too late. In general, the whole time I was there the service people at the desk seem very pre-occupied and too busy to help me even though there weren't a lot of other guests. It's not surprising that they screwed up my tour but the end result was that I didn't get to go to Ingapirca and was stuck on a hiking intensive day tour in an inhospitable environment with short pants and completely inappropriate shoes. I was freezing cold and wet and miserable.
Elegant colonial ambiance
I have never stayed at Santa Lucia because we live in Cuenca. My husband and I dine at Santa Lucia for our anniversary and birthday celebrations because the food is simply outstanding. The cost is more than your average Ecuadorian meal, but then the food is prepared by an above average chef. The wine selection is good too. The atmosphere is old colonial with beautiful murals in a garden-like setting. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting Cuenca.
Beautiful restored home, close to the center of town, for a fraction of what you'd pay for a similar place in the US...what's not to like? Great service. Also a good place to get a cappuchino for all you caffeine-heads out there.
Tha best Hotel not only in Cuenca ,I thing that in the all Ecuador ...the staff is really friendly and the atention is perfect ...the breakfast was really good and the location is extraordinary ....I will go back soon!!
