The picturesque city of Cuenca offers a wide variety of lodging options, from the luxury digs just outside of town to hostels that even the most tightfisted backpacker can afford. If you're going to Cuenca, you should consider staying at one of several converted old homes that are found in the center of town. Some of the most picturesque old mansions in Cuenca have been converted into hotels and guesthouses in recent years, and they provide charming places to stay that are close to the action of the city center. There are also some nice options along the Tomebamba River, which have rooms with river views.
If you're looking for a more relaxing trip, you may want to consider some of the lodging options outside of town Cuenca, like in the town of Baños (not to be confused with the much larger town of Baños near Ambato) or in neighboring Ingapirca. The hotels in these little towns offer good service and value, and are conveniently located near sites of interest, such as the Baños thermal pools and the ancient Inca ruins of Ingapirca.
