Wildhorse Café - Restaurant Cuenca - Ecuador

Owned by an American couple who served as Peace Corps volunteers in Ecuador from 2008-2010, this recently opened café is a small breakfast and lunch spot, as well as a community gathering space. Specializing in baked goods, Wildhorse is a place to enjoy a delicious slice of walnut bourbon pie or rhubard custard pie, and the only spot in town that serves real thick milkshakes and malts. Lunch options include sloppy joes, pita pockets stuffed with hummus, or veggie burgers made with beets, brown rice and beans. Every Tuesday morning (9 a.m.-noon), the café hosts a Buddhist study group, and on Sunday mornings (at 9 a.m.), it leads a Tibetan Buddhist meditation session. On Mondays, a knitting group meets, and on Saturday afternoons (at 1 p.m.), people gather to play Scrabble. Monday-Tuesday and Friday-Sunday 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Closed Wednesdays and Thursdays.
