El Paraíso - Restaurant Loja - Ecuador

Vegetarians passing through Loja can rest easy knowing El Paraíso serves up light, healthy and very reasonably priced vegetarian dishes every day of the week. A typical menú del día (menu of the day) includes a soup, a main dish, and juice or hot tea, all for just $2.80 and freshly prepared by the owner Maria in the kitchen attached to the rustic and friendly dining room. One might enjoy first, for example, a bowl of repe, a traditional Ecuadorian soup made with plantains, potatoes, lentils and cilantro. The main plate often includes a rice and vegetable dish, such as chard delicately coated with egg batter, accompanied by fresh tomato slices and whole brown rice. Maria also often brings in herbs from her own garden to use in her dishes.

Maria's home cooking is complemented by the hominess of the dining room, warmly decorated with wall hangings, including one that reads, "Que tu alimento sea tu medicina", May your food be what heals you. El Paraíso's food is not only simple and satisfying in its taste and health, but delivers a sense of overall well-being in its wholesomeness. Drawing a crowd of regulars all interested in maintaining health and a vegetarian lifestyle, El Paraíso has a flock of locals almost every night that gives the dining room a fun and friendly feel. Spending an evening with a belly full of good food and good company makes El Paraíso a special spot in Loja worth visiting.

El Paraíso is open for breakfast from 7am-10am, lunch 12pm-3pm, and dinner 6pm-9pm Monday through Saturday; Sundays breakfast and lunch only. Maria also sells homemade goods such as whole wheat bread and dessert bars as well as oatmeal cookies, to name a few.
