This museum contains an extensive collection of archaeological pieces, including 10,000-year-old weapons and tools from the region around Loja, and other objects pertaining to the most well-known cultures of Ecuador, such as Valdivia, Machalilla and Chorrera. There is also an ethnographic section that focuses on the region of Loja and Saraguro, as well as a fine arts section with religious art and contemporary pieces.
In the mornings, there are occasional free guides in the museum - local tourism students doing internships. Although they do not charge, it is appropriate to give them a small tip if they are informative and helpful.
