Casa Lojana is a fancy hotel and restaurant located outside of Loja in a converted home. It is owned and operated by the University of Loja, which uses it as a teaching tool for its students involved in the hotel and restaurant industries.
The restaurant is classy and well decorated and offers a complete menu. Some of the food is experimental: you can order, for example, grilled ribs in a pineapple-honey-eucalyptus sauce (I had to try it, never having eaten eucalyptus in anything besides a cough drop before. It was excellent).
The prices were high… for Loja, which means that they’re ridiculously low for anywhere else. A filet mignon cost $7, and nothing on the menu cost more than $12. There is an impressive wine list as well. The restaurant is a great place for a treat for anyone but those on the tightest of budgets.
