This museum contains an extensive collection of archaeological pieces, including 10,000 year old weapons and tools from the region around Loja, and other objects pertaining to the most well known cultures of Ecuador, such as Valdivia, Machalilla and Chorrera. There is also an ethnographic section that focuses on the region of Loja and Saraguro, as well as a fine arts section with religious art as well as contemporary pieces.

In the mornings, there are occasional free guides in the museum - local tourism students doing internships. Although they do not charge, it is appropriate to give them a small tip if they are informative and helpful.

Located right on the Central Park Square.
