Rendez-Vous was set up by a French couple who fell in love with and chose to settle in Vilcabamba after traveling extensively throughout South America. The grounds feature eight adobe cabins with private bathrooms and 24-hour hot water. Each has a pretty terrace where you can kick back and relax in your hammock, while enjoying views of the manicured garden below. Before you settle in and swing away, grab a book from the library, which has books in English, French, German and Spanish. Breakfast and taxes are included in the room price. For a bit more dough, you can rent bikes and explore the spectacular surroundings, set up a Spanish class or two, or rent a movie and vegetate in your room.

The Best Place in Ecuador

We have been traveling for 5 months, from Mexico. From the 46 hotels we stayed in throughout Latin America, Le Rendez-Vous was the best place: spacious rooms, queen beds, very clean, and the best power shower in South America. And really quiet, the best place to relax. Isabelle, the French owners serves us breakfast on our personal table on the porch with excellent home-made bread. The rate for a double room is good at $9 per person with breakfast included. Don't change anything Isabelle and Sergio!
