Extreme Adventure Travel

NEW THIS YEAR: BETTY MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE
Volcano alley boasts 20,000’ volcanic summits, the Andean cowboys of the Chagra culture and extreme adventure sports!

A six day tour through the Andean towns of Chaupi, Baños and Otavalo preps the Betties to summit the 16,817 ft. peak of Ilinizas North.

Meaning “tongue of fire” in the native Quechua language, Tungurahua Volcano overlooks the Andean town of Baños, which boasts premier class IV & V White Water Rafting. The adventure capitol of Ecuador also offers a chance to: practice yoga in the mornings and climb black volcanic walls; test your nerve taking the ultimate plunge via Bridge Jumping; take a reawakening journey into the Refuge Spa; criss- cross waterfalls and forests with a bird’s eye view from the Canopy Tour; and, finally take a test run trekking up Tungurahua Volcano to the refuge, located at 12,500”. The Betty Mountain Adventure includes them all!

After 4 days acclimatizing in Baños, the Betties will be ready to take on Ilinizas North, located above the gateway community of Chaupi. This full day trek offers a non technical back-country summit experience that is accessible to all hikers willing to go the distance and altitude, first to the mountain refuge and then onward to the peak. The village of Chaupi itself is composed of the Chagra culture which are the modern day cowboys of Ecuador with a long tradition of rearing and riding bulls and cattle.

A final stop will bring us to the largest outdoor market in South America. The Otavalo indigenous market is a heavenly explosion of color and culture. Here you can test your haggling skills against the local merchants garbed in their traditional Quechua dress, selling everything from hand loomed weaving's, alpaca sweaters, carvings and paintings, to livestock.

This mountain tour is accessible to hikers willing to challenge their limits. It promises premier high adventure sure to make you forget about the work week you just survived!

Make time for some Betty time in the Andean Cordillera of Ecuador this year. What more can you imagine than a tour of Ecuador’s Andean Volcano’s and culture?
