When traveling or living in Ecuador, it's a good idea to register with your embassy so that you can be contacted and assisted in the event of an emergency in Ecuador, such as civil unrest, terrorism or a natural disaster, or informed of a family emergency in your home country.

Registering with your embassy is free and can be done online before you arrive in Quito or at your embassy once you arrive.
