Because of the rapid change in seasons, bring lots of layers of fast-drying clothes. Fleece and other synthetic fabrics are perfect. Hiking boots and comfortable sandals are also essential. Hiking in the páramo, or high grassland, requires rubber boots, which cost only around $5 in any part of Ecuador.
