Museum

By Paul

This is the building where the famous Museo National de Banco Central del Ecuador started. Today the main collection is shown in a new building close to Parque El Ejido. But even if it doesn’t display really exceptional stuff, there are still a couple of reasons to come here.

1.) There might be a interesting exhibition on the second floor, which is normally free. Check their website for current events.

2.) You could pass a shower in the Musicoteca checking out speeches of Fidel Castro, Ecuadorian folk songs or video documents. You might end up spending the whole afternoon discovering fascinating stuff. 3rd floor, Monday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 5.30 p.m., closed in August, free.

3.) You really want to know about the development of Ecuadorian currency from pepas de chocho (pips of the Andean lupin) to the Dollarization. You need about an hour to stroll through the exhibition; all information is just provided in English. Adults $1, Students $ 0.50, children $ 0.25, Handicapped free. Monday to Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Saturday – Sunday 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

4.) Try to get a glimpse Guillerno Jánsen, one of the many ghosts living in the place and who supposedly gets regularly recorded by security cameras. There are many others, so try your luck.
