The Banco Central's Museo Numismático has just what you'd expect a bank to showcase: coins. The impressive, extensive collection has monetary units from pre-Columbian eras, through the colonial period up to Ecuador's abandoned sucre and the U.S. dollar of modern day. Displays also explain the history of money and the minting of coins. The Numismatic Museum, though, isn’t just about currency. It also has a fine collection of Ecuadorian and world stamps.
