San Francisco de Quito offers simple, clean rooms in a very central part of the Old Town. Many sights are within easy walking distance. The hotel is located on the second and third floors of a pleasant inner courtyard. All rooms are equipped with private bathrooms, a telephone and television. Decorations are sparse, although the dark wood furniture is aesthetically pleasing. Rooms on the third floor are very quiet, with high ceilings, although you might consider bringing a sleeping mask given the skylights. Note also that hot water and water pressure can take a while to pass through the pipes on the upper level. The price includes free internet and breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, including bread, tea or coffee, and eggs (fruit salad costs 1 dollar extra). The hotel has taken serious safety precautions; a guard monitors the entrance, and you must be buzzed in through a wrought-iron gate. However, since Quito can be dangerous, if arriving late, take a taxi and make sure the driver stops right outside the entrance and have him stay until someone lets you in.
