If you're looking to escape the tourist zones of La Mariscal and Centro Historico, try Guapulo. Ecuador hostels are typically cheap, and although this part of town is a bit more pricey, you pay for peace, quiet and charm. Those who aren't keep on Spanish may want to consider staying elsewhere, because taxi drivers sometimes need some convincing in order to navigate the famously hilly streets of Guapulo, Ecuador. Hostels and hotels in this part of Quito tend to be more well kept than in other parts of the city, but be aware that you are going to be in a much more remote part of town than other tourist areas.
