With hot chocolate, hot wine, hot canelazo, and giant drip candles on the tables, Cafe Guápulo is a good place to warm up on chilly Quito nights. This funky spot is home to a friendly kitty, and the red walls are covered in old music posters and sketches and drawings by local artists and café patrons. The food is mediocre, but the fried yucca is worth a try. Come on the weekend, when the usually laid-back café and outdoor patio fill up with a crowd of hipsters and hippies. Café Guápulo sometimes has live music and other events, and has hosted events by big-name bands like Manu Chao in the past.
