Bar

By Blessing Waung

Recently opened, UIO has quickly become the hottest spot in town for the young and the beautiful in Quito. The interesting namesake comes from Quito’s airport code, but has hardly anything to do with the club.

Cover charge is steep, around $10, for guys. Inside, it’s just like any nightclub you could find in Europe. People crowd around the three bars, and it’s difficult to get a drink.

An interesting, albeit annoying, factor of the club is that the management decides, through video cameras, who is and isn’t allowed entry. This ensures a crowd of extremely good-looking people, but can split up groups of friends – not cool.

However, checking out UIO gives a true taste of the Quito local nightlife, unlike some of the cheesy bars found in La Mariscal. Definitely worth checking out.
