Price Description:I e-mailed practically every hostal in Quito. Hostal Folklore was definitely the best value for the 1 month length of stay. A lot of the hostals didn't give discounts for a couple of weeks or more.

I would not recommend the Folklore Hotel. They refused to honor the discount for members of the South American Explorers Club (even though I reserved a room 10 days in advance, as they require for a discount). Also, they added 25% to the charge for an airport shuttle. Overall, I was not impressed with the hotel for the price and I was also not impressed with the friendliness of the staff. I ended up moving neighborhoods to be closer to my Spanish teacher. If I were going to stay in the La Floresta neighborhood I would stay at the hostal Aleida. I toured this hotel and it was so much nicer for the same price as the Folklore and the staff were fantatstic people. The Folklore is old news compared to Aleida´s.
It´s a very nice place to stay in Quito.
Exelente atmosphere, friendly people and exelente price.
Its a exelent place to stay in Quito!!
I loved the fact that this hotel is donating a portion of the room price to the Santa Martha Animal Rescue Organization. Bernardo, the owner of the Hotel Folklore will take you to this fabulous refuge/farm on a hilltop south of Quito, which is run by the owners, Johnny and Brenda. They go all over South America to rescue exotic animals from abusive environments, mainly circuses. There are Galopogas turtles, lions, tigers, bears, birds, monkeys and whatever other animal that needs a nice home. It's a wonderful experince to see that someone in this country cares what happens to these magnificent animals! Oh,yea--the hotel IS cute and cozy. Stay here instead of in the Mariscal. You Will be safe and comfortable and well looked-after by Bernardo and his staff! I stayed in the mini suite with the fireplace which was super big and very comfortable!
Besides being a very 'cute and cozy' place, the hostel is made truly hospitable by the owner, Bernardo Arias and his great staff, Yadira and Lilly. They went way out of their way to take care of my traveling companion, who is ill. I live in Quito now, and visit Bernardo and the staff very often. These are the kinds of people who will make your vacation memorable with their kindnesses!
