Mercado Artesanal is a small and bustling market full of artisan handiwork, which is located on Reina Victoria (on the edge of La Mariscal) and close to Parque El Ejido. The market is home to permanent stalls that sell Ecuadorian hand-knit goods, wood carvings, silver, jewelry and native musical instruments, among other items. The Mercado Artesanal de La Mariscal is a significantly smaller version of the famed indigenous market in Otavalo, but you can find most everything here that you would there, without having to make the 3.5 hour journey. All things can, and should, be bartered for -- whether you’re looking for souvenirs or an addition to your alpaca sweater collection. The market is open every day of the week from 10 a.m. until about 7 p.m.
