Centro del Mundo is located right in the busy, sometimes chaotic, heart of Mariscal; this hostel fits right in. It is extremely popular, not only as it is one of the city’s cheapest places to stay, but also for its friendly, welcoming atmosphere... and of course their famous free rum & coke nights.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday the Centro del Mundo gives away 12 liters of rum & coke to be shared between whoever is staying at the hostel, creating a fun party atmosphere and giving you good insight into the type of traveler that will love this hostel.
As well as this key feature, the hostel is clean and has a lot more to offer with its comfy lounge, cable TV, free pool table, food available 24 hours a day and walls which have been turned into a giant informative guide to Ecuador.
Although at night the Mariscal can be a little dangerous (don’t carry too much money) this hostel is safe and does not let anyone enter who is not a paying guest.

With its chilled out atmosphere and cheap prices, this has got to be one of the best hostals in Quito.. sure it is in the most dangerous part of Quito, La Mariscal but you get that wherever tourists go in South America... I have never had a problem with the staff on free rum and coke nights which happen 3 times a week and I have stayed there 4 or 5 times over the past 2 years.
If you're traveling solo and want to meet people in Ecuador, this is THE place. El Centro del Mundo is fun, crazy, drunken and social. If you want a quiet or pretty place, this is not it. If you want to have fun, it's a blast.
A very social place, easy to meet other travelers. Laid-back staff.
Whilst people might (at first glance) not like the hostel because it is small and slightly scruffy it really is the best hostel for meeting people and having a great great time. I met so many amazing people here (including the staff) and ended up travelling all over Ecuador with friends that I met at the hostel. A great place that I will always have happy memories of.
exceptionally cheap dorm rooms, good facilities, organised minibus bus trips direct from hostel and affordable food available. friendly stff and busy
The place is a good backpakers meeting place. Central (close to agency, bars, restaurants). You got a lot of information on the country from Pierre, the owner.
This is a good hostal and a good place to meet someone.
Centro del Mundo is a cramped hole in the wall. The common areas are uncomfortable and stinky (spilled rum and coke from years ago), there are no kitchen facilities, and the food offered is grossly overpriced. Beds are also not up to par, and everyone who slept in my room woke up with a stuffy nose because of the amount of dust and mold in the blankets.
I travelled over 6 months all over South America and this hostel was something unique. Great atmosphere and you can meet lots of people on common room. Not to mention those cuba libre nights.
A great place, with rum and coke nights monday, wednsday, friday. Great common room were you meet lots of people.
