The friendly staff at this small cafe may not be the most experienced in the restaurant industry, but they aim to please and definitely have so much to offer. They are happy to explain about their culture and offer great tourism advice for visitors to the Napo region.
The dark chocolate bars that Kallari sells are the best I have ever tried, and I definitely recommend them for any serious chocoholic.
I highly recommend visiting the Kallari cafe. The food is inexpensive ($2 sandwich) and the teas and juices are excellent. The staff are warm and welcoming. Also, make sure to check out the Kallari crafts. Kallari sells beautiful handmade jewelry, baskets, and high quality chocolate.
Kallari is an excellent cafe in a perfect location in the Mariscal. Not only is its food outstanding and well-priced, but its mission in general is commendable. Occasional live music and cultural events are an added bonus.
I found the Kallari cafe to be a great place to escape the crowds of the Mariscal, and to sit back and enjoy a real coffee and the best chocolate brownies in town. Surrounded by bamboo and the gorgeous rainforest crafts, it manages to create an atmosphere unequalled in the rest of Quito. Not to mention the free crafts and Kichwa classes, and to-die-for guacamole, I'd definitely recommend it to fellow travellers.
I have been living in Quito for a couple of months now and had numerous ´foreigners´ suggest I go to Kallari. I have been there three times now and will tell you of my experiences. On all accounts I was treated rudely and stared at by all three employees incessantly and asked them to please stop upon which I was greeted with more rude behavior. Neither times I went did the place have change for even my ten dollar bill. I understand that this is common in Ecuador in general, but for a place that subsists on foreigners...they should be better prepared. Also, Kallari offers free internet service. What they do not tell you is that they are located on a block where the most robberies in Quito occur. I went in with my computer only once...why, you may ask, only once? Because I went in and several locals came in and started banging on my computer and the staff did NOTHING! Absolutely nothing! Unheard of! I do not recommend this place!
For the traveler that is unable to actually experience traditional Kichwa life in the rainforest, this cafe gives one the chance to eat their food, hear their language, and learn their culture. I am a teacher hoping to take a group of students to the Amazon, and would like for them to experience the cafe and support its cause.
I have previously lived in the Amazon Rainforest and today visited the Kallari Cafe in Quito and I must say it recreates the ambiance of the Amazon better than any tacky Rainforest Cafe chain can. Also, I have never been anywhere where 100 % of the profits go direcly to the producer organization. Truely amazing. But don't trust me-- Check it out for yourself.
By far the best food in Quito (I visted for 4 weeks)! Atmosphere is warm, food presentation feels very authentic, staff was friendly and helpful in making menu recommendations. BEST guacamole ever! Presentation and sales of Kallari rainforest
I really appreciate your listing for the new and unique Kallari coffee shop in Quito. Thanks for keeping up with businesses and giving this small cooperative store a chance.
