Mulata de Tal - Cocina Latinamericana

While the popular Mariscal district is teeming with options for traditional Ecuadorean or International cuisine, the Mulata de Tal is a standout in Quito's restaurant scene, specializing in the varied tastes that define Latin America. Located in a refurbished, two-story home near the heart of the Mariscal, the reastaurant was launched by a Mexican and Ecuadorean duo in 2005. The menu offers the dishes most famed and favored from countries right across Latin America, from Argentinean steak recipes and a vegetarian reworking of the traditional Venezuelan Pabellón Criollo to a Peruvian toffee and almond desert. Specialties of the house, marked "Fusion Latina," stretch beyond the cuisine to the Friday night electrotango perfomances, which uniquely pairs the traditional Latin dance to new age, electronic beats. Indeed, from the frayed furniture decorating the outdoor dining area to the comic art on the toilet walls, Mulata de Tal just oozes a "I don’t try to be hip, it comes naturally" vibe.
