Green Horse Ranch is located at the bottom of a volcanic crater just outside of Quito. The ranch specializes in trail rides throughout the Western Andes, and offers one- to 12-day trips venturing into the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. All trips are tailor-made, based on your experience and interest. Astrid Müller, the German owner, has been running the ranch since 1995. Working with horses was her childhood dream, and her knowledgeable international and local staff has lifelong riding experience.
The horses are well-treated and healthy. With luscious green fields to run around and with constant access to fresh streams, this place is not only a paradise for the horses but also for any animal-lover. Astrid takes time to explain each horse’s personality and past, so that you’ll be sure to feel relaxed and comfortable with your companion. You’ll also get a choice between European and Western saddle. The scenery reveals the outstanding landscape that has made Ecuador famous: cloud forests, desert-like landscapes, deep river canyons and steep mountain slopes. The tracks are no problem for beginners and no bore for experts.
Due to the remoteness of the area, overnight stops are mainly basic, though always carefully chosen. The price includes pick-up and return to Quito, and involves an optional photo stop by the famous Mitad del Mundo monument. Each way takes about 1.5 hours, depending on the traffic.
