About 35 minutes from Quito on the road to El Quinche, Checa will undoubtedly become more developed when Quito's new airport opens in the area (estimated opening date, roughly 2010). Until then, Checa offers pleasant views of the valleys to the north of Quito and Quito in the distance.

Checa is odd. To say the very least. Unless you know Ecuador and how the place operates. Then Checa becomes a pretty typical place. But if you aren't familiar, then you should stick to the cities. Checa is rather dirty, as are all rural and semi-rural Ecuadorian towns, and has it's fair share of crime. But anything you buy there will come cheap, cheap, CHEAP. It's a good place to stock up on food and all of those necessities. Don't stay overnight though.
