La Esquina & The Reservoir - Hiking Quito - Ecuador

A five-minute walk from the plaza towards “los reservorios” (the reservoir) will bring you to another appealing collection of stores anchored by Corfu - a café that serves up some of the best ice-cream and pastries in all of Ecuador. This nice little collection of shops and restaurants is known as "La Esquina" (The Corner) and fills up on the weekends with hungry families or bikers coming in hot off the Chaquiñan trail. To get there from the plaza simply go up Francisco de Orellana and then take a right on Chimborazo.

It's also worth noting that the reservoir itself - located just out front of La Esquina - makes for a splendid and relaxing stroll on both weekends and weekdays; the auxiliary waters themselves simulate a man-made lake of sorts and the trails along them offer arresting views of the cliffs of Quito and the valley as well. Once you're done taking the stroll, head back to La Esquina and grab an ice-cream or a drink to cool off.
