Traveler Reviews of Mountain Views Inn

Think twice (or three times)

My husband & I arrived at the inn and were surprised that there were no other guests and the "staff" that greeted us consisted of one housekeeper, and a number of unfriendly watch dogs. How one could get a massage or other services at any time (as advertised) is beyond me. The inn is far from everything, so if you stay, you are locked into the expensive meals and tours offered on their itineraries We lasted 4 hours. We would have left sooner but the housekeeper didn't know how to call a cab (really) so we were stuck there for longer than we wanted! Luckily with the help of the Lonely Planet Guide to Ecuador (I have no connection to that organization) we were able to find a lovely hotel at a fraction of the cost. I could go on and on about the details of our 4 hour disaster, suffice it to say, think twice (or three times) and do some cost comparisons.

Beware

My husband & I spent a couple of hours there and knew it wasn't for us.  It had been described as suburban - it is in the middle of nowhere.  Expensive day trips are pushed and pushed ($100 just for transportation), but there is no viable alternative because of the out of the way location.  Meals are overpriced (just like the day trips).  The overall atmosphere is pretty depressing.  When we arrived there were no other guests and just one employee on site.  After spending just a few difficult hours there I would say, don't risk any of your vacation time on this place.

Do yourself a favour... and DONT!!!!

On our arrival back from a full day excursion with the driver, your parents were not organized and did not have change to pay the driver, therefore asked us in kind for change. We did have $40 American and $60 Canadian, so we said we could not change the funds. Your mother insisted that she would take the Canadian. We are not a bank and I would have rather saved my last Canadian dollars then to give them to your parents and pay $10 to do so. We are NOT prepared to pay money for your parents exchange due to the fact that they were ill-prepared. In speaking with many people during our stay, they were shocked at the price we paid for our driver. Do you feel justified in charging that much? I certainly hope you extend this generous amount to your drivers. As for your food policy, it was most unfortunate that you painted such a horrible picture of your countries food and aggressively pursued us to make a decision to preorder food in advance. The food at Mountain Views Inn was very average however, due to having to sit and be dictated to EAT! EAT! EAT, the atmosphere was by far the worst and most negitive of our trip. I find it most amusing that your beer cost $5 each, which your dad kindly opened and poured 3 glasses one for himself. We dined at the Luna Runtun and the beer was reasonably priced at $1.50 and we did not have to share it with our server, which was a very nice addition. I can compare our stay at MVI to that of what a jail would feel like. We had a curfew to arrive home by 21:00, or the gates would be locked. This is completely unreasonable and in fact, put a very negative aspect on our wonderful holiday. If you are going to enforce a curfew, I would highly suggest you put this on your website, as I’m sure your guests would appreciate knowing this. We have a dear friend who happens to work in tourism Ecuador, on our last night had a lovely meal with her. It was most unfortunate that the night had to end early due to our curfew and she was unable to drop us off at our “hotel” so we had to walk from down the block with our luggage. We have many Ecudorian friends of high stature who are appalled by your security policies. Our friends wanted to reach us during our stay and were worried when looking at your website and the phone book there was no address or number for MVI. Are you that concerned with your fellow Ecuadorians that you are basically invisible? On the morning of our departure, the maid came into the house singing loudly and vacuuming just outside our door, ensuring the vacuum was banging our door. Please advise if this is the courtesy you extend to all guests? Furthermore, the cleanliness of your room was not acceptable. I have pictures and documented proof of this. I can’t express enough how unsatisfactory our experience at MVI was. I have travelled extensively on an international level and never have had such an unacceptable level of customer service and the feeling of being ripped off.
