V!VA User‘s Description

Papallacta is dusty little town known for its great hot springs and fresh trout about one kilometer off the main road about an hour and a half east of Quito on the road to Tena. For $5 per day, soak in the well-maintained pools of varying degrees of heat from mountain-river cold to steamy steamy hot. There is a spa to the right of the main entrance to the pools.

There are a handful of hotels and small restaurants in the area ranging from $5 - $15 per night To have 24-hour access to the pools in the spa, you can stay in cozy cabañas on the grounds for around $50.

Catch any bus headed from Quito to Tena or Lago Agrio from the Terminal Terrestre in Quito or from the gas station in Cumbaya, the valley just north of Quito. Ask to be let off at Papallacta. It is just past the large oil pipes coming from the jungle about an hour and a half outside of the city. There is a large sign off the highway and a road leading up the hill, follow the road about 1 km to the entrance to the spas. You will pass small restaurants and hostels along the way.
