Barely visible from the dusty, drab road, Rincón Amazónico is a gorgeous gem of a restaurant tucked away in the valley. In fact, from the dusty trail you might almost miss this secret treasure. However, careful eyes will be thoroughly rewarded. Upon entering you are transported to the warm tranquility of the Amazon. The chairs and tables, made from tree trunks, are surrounded by beautiful flowers and plants strung throughout the inside. The partially open-thatch roof gives the place a refreshing feel, allowing sunlight to quietly enter.
Rincon Amazonico is actually equal parts bar, café and restaurant. The front area is a tiki-hut bar that serves tropical cocktails, while the second floor has a fireplace, television and handmade board games for guests to enjoy free of charge. A few steps down lies the spacious and airy main restaurant. Guests can dine at a table or simply lounge on the handful of hammocks.
The menu offers an array of authentic jungle cuisine. Portions are generous and prices are cheap. The most popular dish – justifiably so – is the Amazonian signature ayampaco, a giant plate of bijao-wrapped chicken served with yuca, plantains, palmito and tomatoes. Other popular dishes include trucha, churrasco and fritada. Lighter appetites can order the “medio” version of each, which halves the price and portion.
Make sure to browse the popular and extensive list of jugos, whose deliciously rich flavors are repeatedly raved by locals and travelers alike.
