Traveler Reviews of Hostal Tutamanda & Spanish Courses

Let's be real about this

Rating: 75%

I stayed at the Hostel Tutamanda and took their Spanish courses for several weeks during the summer of 2006. I enjoyed the experience for the most part. Most of what they advertise is a fair description. My biggest complaint is the kitchen. While it is well stocked with needed cooking utensils, there are problems that clearly need to be dealt with properly. 1) The space is way too small 2) There is only one refrigerator packed full with many items of guests long-gone 3) The cockroaches, which they desperately try to control with smelly insecticides. 4) Routine cleaning often appeared haphazard and sloppy The business clearly needs to spend some money to make a better kitchen. The internet access facilities were there but quite limited. Wireless broadband with good bandwidth would improve the establishment dramatically. Also, it's location has been mistakenly said to be on a "quiet street" which is not true. La Avenida Colón is a very busy street with much traffic & many noisy, polluting buses. Fortunately, Tutamanda sits further back from the street behind another building sheltering only a tiny bit. Access to and fro is via the busy Avenida Colón. My apologies if things have improved since the date of my experience there. As I stated, I enjoyed the experience for the most part.
