Best Places In Quito To See Live Music

The vast majority of major international music acts can't be bothered to play in Quito (but that doesn't stop local newspapers from reporting on how great the Metallica concert was... in Lima!). However, every so often, a Megadeth, Air Supply or Kenny G show materializes, and Axl Rose was nice enough to stop by in early 2010; you'll have better luck catching Latin acts, such as Shakira, Rakim y Ken-Y or Juan Luis Guerra.

Quito has a number of live venues with enough shows on tap to keep you entertained. The Def Leppards and Cranberries of the world play in Quito's largest venues - Coliseo General Rumi帽ahui and Estadio Atahualpa - and there are frequent reggae and heavy metal festivals at the base of the Telef茅riQo. Anank茅's Mariscal house has cheap garage punk gigs, and Blues or House of Rock are the go-to places if you want to see a Killers/Nirvana/The Police tribute band.

If you're keen on cumbia, electronic music and everything in between, Aguij贸n is a good bet. El Pobre Diablo and La Liebre almost always have nightly sets by jazz and blues acts. If you want live salsa music while you step on some toes, head to Seserib贸. Classical music fans should check out the Casa de la Cultura and Teatro Bol铆var.
