Food Expenses Cost

By U.S. and European standards, Ecuador is cheap. In particular Some fairly standard costs include:

  • $0.05 for a banana
  • $0.15 for an egg
  • $1.50 for a loaf of bread
  • $1.30 for a liter of milk
  • $1.25 for a large bottle of beer bought from the store
  • $1 for a cup of “Americano” coffee
  • $2 for a cappuccino or other similar style of coffee

For those on a tight budget, costs become considerably less when shopping in the markets rather than in the supermarket. Imported goods in particular are expensive due to the high import tax placed on them. At the markets you can buy cheap vegetables, fruit, meat and other groceries for a significantly reduced price. Shopping at the market can also be fun to boot.
