Quito Flight Information
Flying to Quito is a relatively straight-forward process. There are a number of connections between Quito and cities in Latin America, and there are also connections from Houston, Atlanta and Miami. The only flights from Europe to Quito go through Madrid and Amsterdam. Many European travelers opt to connect through one of the hubs in the U.S. instead. Travelers from Asia usually have to connect through the U.S. to get to Quito. From Australia and New Zeland, there are connections through Santiago de Chile and the U.S. Flights can even be booked using the search engine at the bottom of this page.
Domestic flights usually cost $60-120, one-way. AeroGal and LAN are somewhat more expensive than their competitors, but generally receive high marks from travelers. It is also possible to charter flights from Quito airport— the best way to do it is with a tour agency. This is especially handy for visiting remote locations in the Oriente.
Quito's Mariscal Sucre Airport
All international and domestic flights arrive and depart from Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport (Code: UIO) which is 18 kilometers (11 mi.) east of the city, near the small town of Tababela.
Transportation between the airport and Quito:
The company Aeroservicios S.A. runs WiFi equipped buses 24/7, leaving every 15 minutes at rush hour, or every 30 minutes during normal hours, from the old airport to the new one at a rate of $8 per passenger.
Alternatively, public transit will provide buses departing from the Rio Coca terminal to the new airport every 15 minutes for $2. However, the catch is that you’ll have to patiently wait through five or more brief stops along the way before finally getting there.
Expected transportation time between the two points will be at least one hour to one hour and thirty minutes until traffic conditions improve - specifically once the bypasses are constructed (the main Collas-Tababela highway that is being built from the city to the airport won't be completed until April of 2014)
Taxis will cost an estimated $25 to get to and from most places in Quito. To consult a chart for a list of fixed taxi rates, divided by neighborhood, click here..Quito Flight Destinations
